New website designed part 1
NMFX Creative was recently asked to produce a website for Atmosphere Productions, a new company that launched during the first lockdown. The business had a minimal holding site that was quickly created when the business was formed but the company now need to develop and establish a web presence so a new web site design was required.
What is required
The owner wanted a high impact, high contrast feel, predominantly black and white with the colour from the new logo used for key areas. They wanted a content management system option that allows them to update bits of the site that need regularly changing as well as being able to make blogs, and add the latest news etc. They wanted the site to be simple and easy to use and not have any distracting features or gimmicks.
NMFX Creative developed a simple five-page structure that has all the requirements for a modern responsive site. An assessment of what information someone using the website may be looking for was made. Having an understanding of who the target audience is, is vitally important. What is going to bring them to the website? Why are they choosing you?
For a company such as Atmosphere Productions, it's unlikely that someone just browsing the web will happen across the site so people are either interested in the company with a view to engaging their services, are interested in the work they have done/are doing or have followed a link to something on the site, perhaps a blog post like this one?
With the WHO, WHAT and WHY answered an understanding of just what is required from the site can be put together. The main decision at this point is whether to have a single page site, divided into different sections or whether to have a more traditional multi-page structure. While the site is small and basic at the beginning and would suit a single page with anchors for scroll links, as the company grows there may be additional pages, sections etc that need adding so a multi-page option was selected and this offers the easiest way to change the sites structure in the future.
Content is king!
A challenge for many new enterprises in their early years is having content to demonstrate what they can offer. Whether this is a new product, service or even an idea. Having enough 'stuff' to put a website together can be a real issue. Images, in particular, can be a challenge as the website owner has to ensure they have the rights to use the images within their site. This often means licensing stock photos which in turn can become an unnecessary monthly expense. In Atmosphere Productions case they have been able to make use of the great photos that we took for them at some of their recent events and avoid this extra cost entirely. Over the course of a year or two, the initial cost of the photoshoots will be recovered by savings on not having to use stock photos on the site and in the long term will be a considerable saving for them. Also having full control of the rights for the photos means that there is no worry about losing access to the images used.
The same can be said for any icons or assets used within the website. NMFX either uses licensed icons or we design and create assets on the fly as needed. In that way, we can ensure that copyright issues will never be a worry for the client and that they have a design unique to them and their needs.
