Website Design Part 3 - Content Management
NMFX Creative was recently asked to produce a website for Atmosphere Productions, a new company that launched during the first lockdown. The business had a minimal holding site that was quickly created when the business was formed but the company now need to develop and establish a web presence so a new web site design was required. In the first part of this series of posts I looked at what the initial requirements for the site were as well as early content requirements.
With the site now being live I will look at managing the content for the site and how the business owner can make regular updates themselves. Content management is about giving the owner of the site the control to manage, organise and update content on the site without having the need to contact a developer to make the change. Having the ability for site owners to change and update content allows them to keep the site fresh and give people a reason to visit. It also allows the site owner to respond to any sudden changes quickly by adding latest news, offers, events etc.
The system is called content management and depending on the development platform used for the site design there are now many options available. It has, for NMFX clients been important that the content management I use is simple for them to get done what they want to. They do not want to have to spend hours learning yet another new software or app. Business owners are busy people and so I have chosen a system that gives them a level of control in the areas of the site they want, is very easy to use and most importantly doesn't add much load to their, already busy days.
So how does that work practically though? Well it means a management system that you can access from any device, Pc, tablet or even phone. A system where you can easily make the changes you want to with a minimum of fuss. Something that lets you stack articles in advance and hold them ready before publishing them so that continent updating can be done once or twice a month rather than weekly or daily.
So once the content management system is set up and ready all the site owner has to do is come up with engaging, interesting content. If they have any technical problems then they have the reassurance that I'm available to help out and get them back to running their business or enjoying their down time and not having to worry about the website.
After trying out several solutions I have selected the one I feel gives the site owners what they need and the initial response is that they love it! It's quick and easy to use, they can jump into editing and make a few changes and then get back to what they do or they can get anyone on their team to make the updates as each site can have different people who have editing access. With just 30 mins training to go over how to use the system they are up and running and can make instant updates and changes they need.
In the next update I will look at optimising the site for search engines and what can be done to improve your results.
