Show Poster - I was asked to make a poster for a production of Our House the Musical. Based on an existing design the shows producer wanted to feature some members of the cast in the Iconic ‘Madness’ poses. This required setting up a photoshoot with the actors and then compositing them into the poster design. I wanted the characters to look larger than life so I emphasised this by making the photos look painted in style.
My first step with any show poster is to design the logo for the show. Our House is a sliding doors style story about choices and repercussions those choices have for the main character. The two different futures are shown with the arrows pointing in two different directions with different colours and textures.
I knew that the logo was going to be animated for video eventually so I made the logo in After Affects with this in mind.
The ability to control every aspect of the logo using 3dfx is a very powerful tool and while it can take longer to create is well worth the extra time. The finished position of the logo components was then exported at a very high resolution and quality out to Photoshop.
The main design is drafted with the essential poster details added and space for the photographic elements. Some simple lighting effects and particles add a little extra detail around the logo and will help blend the photos into the design.
The actors were photographed on a green screen so the they could be easily extracted from the background in Photoshop. I then ran various filters and adjustments too change the images and make them look more like they had been painted. A blurred out screened shadow added behind them on the poster helps the characters stand out with a soft glow.
